OCBC Bank Appoints New Head For Its Group Consumer Banking And Wealth Management Businesses

  • 20 Oct 2022

OCBC Bank today announced the appointment of Mr Sunny Quek as the Head of Global Consumer Financial Services with immediate effect. Reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Quek will lead the consumer banking and wealth management businesses in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Greater China. The consumer banking wealth management business is managed under the brands of OCBC Premier Banking and OCBC Premier Private Client. Mr Quek, currently the Head of Consumer Financial Services Singapore and a member of the Management Committee, will also be made a member of the Management Executive Committee.

Mr Quek joined OCBC Bank in September 2012 as Head of Branch and Premier Banking, Singapore. Prior to this, he was the Branch Banking Director at Citibank Singapore. Mr Quek took over as Head of Consumer Financial Services for OCBC Bank’s Singapore market on 13 November 2019 after successfully leading the digital transformation efforts across all customer touchpoints, growing the OCBC Premier Banking business to become a leader in the affluent segment space, and launching OCBC Premier Private Client with an Accredited Investor (AI) platform with bespoke wealth solutions.

Since 2019, Mr Quek has also been overseeing the stock broking business of the Group under OCBC Securities Pte Ltd and serving as a director on its Board.

Under Mr Quek’s leadership, the consumer banking and wealth management business in Singapore achieved record net interest income driven by strong deposit book and margin expansion. Wealth management fees grew significantly on the back of strong bancassurance sales. The secured lending balances also grew with consumer green loans tripling within a year. Over the past year, Mr Quek has mapped out the strategy to accelerate growth for the consumer banking franchise across the region.

Ms Helen Wong, Group CEO of OCBC Bank, said: “Sunny has delivered strong financial results for the consumer banking and wealth management businesses, year after year. In particular, Sunny leads a very successful OCBC Premier Private Client franchise that doubled in Assets Under Management. Rolling out innovative talent management programmes and initiatives, Sunny has also built a strong team to drive the businesses further. Well respected by his peers within the OCBC Group, I am confident Sunny will be a valuable contributor to the senior management team.”
